The Shops at Tanforan regional shopping mall is on the site of the Tanforan Shopping Center, which was built in the 1970’s. The center underwent a major renovation in 2003 to include transit access for BART, to add parking, and to create a streetscape shopping experience. The site is on the historic Tanforan Racktrack, the famous Seabiscuit raced in the 1930’s. The total retail space is now over 1 million square feet of retail, and anchors include Target, JCPenney, Sears, and Barnes & Noble.
Brio Engineering has provided consulting engineering services for the 276,000 square feet expansion and remodel of this major regional mall on a 45-acre site. The staff developed the entire site work design package for a new parking deck with a Century Theater on top and reconfigured the surrounding parking fields to meet the parking ratio requirements for REA. The Mall phase completed in November, 2005, the Century Theater and parking deck phase is currently under construction.
